Clarens, a picturesque town with diverse seasonal offerings, boasts a delightful climate year-round.

During the Summer months (November to February), visitors can revel in mild temperatures, perfect for enjoying outdoor activities throughout the day without the discomfort of extreme heat. Though occasional thunderstorms might occur, the overall climate remains comfortable. In the evenings, a light jersey is advisable for those who wish to sit outdoors, as the temperatures become slightly cooler. The added appeal of Clarens being a malaria-free area makes it even more inviting.

In Autumn (March to May), night temperatures drop, and the town undergoes a captivating transformation with deciduous trees adorning the landscape in vibrant autumn colours. This season proves to be a favorite among photography enthusiasts who wish to capture the stunning visuals.

Winter (June to August) in Clarens can be quite chilly, particularly during the nights. However, the days are generally sunny and clear, offering ample opportunities for exploration. A biting wind from the snow-capped mountains might be felt, so it’s advisable to bundle up in warm clothing.

Spring (September to October) unveils a particularly beautiful side of Clarens. The blooming of fruit trees and the warming weather create a vibrant atmosphere. The wind becomes gentler, and although the countryside remains dry until the summer rains arrive, the scenery remains captivating.

Visitors should be prepared for rapid weather changes in the mountainous region and keep essentials like hats, sunscreen, and warm clothing at hand. While the days are usually sunny, temperatures can significantly drop after sunset, with winter nights reaching lows of -14°C. The lack of cloud cover grants a remarkable view of bright stars on cold winter nights. Rainfall is mainly concentrated in the summer months, with short-duration storms. The low rainfall results in a dry atmosphere, so those from more humid climates may wish to pack moisturizer.

While snowfall in Clarens is unpredictable, the surrounding mountains, including the Maluti Mountains, may occasionally receive a dusting of snow during winter, presenting picturesque photography opportunities. For skiing enthusiasts, Afriski in Lesotho, just a few hours away, offers a skiing experience with a regular shuttle service operating from Clarens during winter.

For accurate South African weather reports, refer to the temperatures for Bethlehem, keeping in mind that Clarens is typically 2°C cooler than Bethlehem.
