WELCOME TO VONK POTTERY
Vonk Pottery invites you to embark on a journey of artistic discovery. Step into a world where clay comes alive, and creativity knows no bounds. It isn’t just a studio—it’s a sanctuary for the soul, where every piece tells a story, and every stroke ignites inspiration.
Techniques, materials & firing
There are various techniques used in pottery, including hand-building (coil, slab, and pinch methods), wheel-throwing, and sculpting. Each technique requires different skills and tools. Traditionally, pottery is made from clay, which is readily available. Different types of clay have distinct properties that affect the final outcome of the pottery. After shaping, pottery is fired in a kiln to harden the clay. There are two main types of firing: bisque firing and glaze firing. Bisque firing is the initial firing at a lower temperature to remove moisture and make the pottery more durable. Glaze firing involves applying glazes to the bisque-fired pottery and firing it again at a higher temperature to fuse the glazes onto the surface.

Beginners
Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of hand-building as you embark on a six-week odyssey of creativity. Through the delicate art of pinch pots, the intricate techniques of slabbing, and the whimsical forms of quilling, each session in the relaxed and creativity-inspiring courtyard of By The Way Guesthouse reveals the magic of clay, from its humble beginnings to the fiery transformation in the kiln.

R1850 (inclusive of clay, paints, glazes, tools, and firing)
A “Pay as you go” payment option is available
(R200 for clay, R250 per class, R150 for firing)

Elevate your pottery experience with our advanced project classes, where creativity flows as freely as the wine. Under Cassandra’s expert guidance, unleash your imagination and craft bespoke pieces amidst the tranquil ambiance of our studio. Sip and sculpt your way to artistic fulfilment as you connect with fellow artisans in a vibrant community of creativity.
